My Story
Devina Malva Salsabila
Exploring the Depths of Abstract Expression
As an abstract artist, my work is a continuous dialogue between emotion and form. I believe that abstract art possesses a unique power to communicate the inexpressible — inviting viewers into a deeply personal, contemplative space.
My practice is characterized by rigorous material exploration and an intuitive approach to color and composition. I work primarily with acrylics and mixed media on canvas, allowing the physical qualities of paint to guide the evolution of each piece.
Every artwork presented here is a piece of my journey. My goal is not just to create visually striking pieces, but to foster genuine connections through art that resonates on an emotional level.
Creative Process
How I Work
I
Intuition First
Every piece begins with a feeling, not a plan. I let emotion drive the first marks — raw, unfiltered, honest. The canvas becomes a space where the subconscious speaks before the conscious mind can intervene.
II
Layer by Layer
I build works through accumulation — adding, erasing, sanding back. Each layer holds memory of what came before. This archaeological quality is intentional: I want viewers to sense that the painting has a history, a life lived before it met them.
III
Color as Language
I think in color before I think in words. My palette shifts with my state of mind — warm when searching, cool when resolved. The tensions between hues carry emotional weight that no title or description can fully capture.
IV
Knowing When to Stop
The hardest skill I've learned is restraint. A painting is finished not when there's nothing left to add, but when there's nothing left to remove. This moment of clarity — when the work finally breathes on its own — is what I live for.
What I Believe
01
Artistic Integrity
Every piece I create is born from genuine emotional and intellectual exploration. I resist trend-driven aesthetics in favor of enduring, personal expression.
02
Material Exploration
My practice is deeply rooted in the physical relationship with my medium. Each brushstroke and texture is an essential part of the dialogue between the canvas and my vision.
03
Connection with Collectors
I believe art is completed when it resonates with another soul. I value building meaningful, long-term relationships with those who connect with my work.
